The Diocese of Madison asks that children preparing for Sacraments receive an inmidiate preparation of a minimum of 2 years at the parish. Remote preparation should be happening at home from the time they are toddlers until the children leave home. The church teaches that the first teachers of the faith for the children are the parents. The parroquial school and the parish exist to aid the parents in teaching the faith to the children, not to be a substitute for them.
The children at Holy Family Parish are instructed using the Baltimore Catechism and are required to learn all the questions in those books plus the prayers they need to learn as required by the diocese of Madison. At the end of their Sacramental prep, the children will be examined by the pastor. Students failing to know all that is required, not attending Mass, and failing exmaniation will delay their reception of the Sacrament(s).
In order to receive the Sacraments at Holy Family, Sunday Mass attendance is required, as it is required for any baptized Catholic. Failure to attend Sunday Mass as required of each student and parent, unless a grave reason impedes the person to attend it, the Sacraments will be delayed until Sunday Mass attendance becomes regular for the student.
